Sarah Archer is trying everything in her power to be a good person and not to use witchcraft to benefit herself, which is what her mother and her aunt did all their lives. Unfortunately a late night run to Target in the middle of PMS and a rude woman honking at her in the parking lot was more than Sarah could take. When she allowed her inner bitch to come out the aftershock of the spell was way bigger than Sarah expected, and an innocent man is swept up into the mix. Bitch Witch is a tell of good vs evil, well really more like dark vs light instead of true evil. It is the story of Sarah trying to live her life but without following in the footsteps of her mother and her aunt. Author S.R. Karfelt creates a fun, easy and almost comedic at time story of life and love.
Bitch Witch is the story of a woman who doesn't want to be the same as her family before her, but has no real idea how to go about it. She works a clerk job to keep her mind occupied and keep herself from using the dark magic that courses through her veins. Author S.R. Karfelt has taken a modern story, a woman with a desire to be something different than her ancestors, but making clumsy attempts at it. When Paul is swept into the afterschock of her spell, he becomes a friend and confidenate that allows Sarah to find her way in the world. This is aqq reasonably clean book with no real sex or bad language, I defientely would recommend it to all readers. I found the idea of a woman breaking away from her past and trying to forge her own life away from what she has always saw her mother and aunt do as a refreashing plot line.

Spirians: The Beginning

Good vs Evil, Light vs Dark, Arch Angels vs Lucifer; this concept has always captured our attention. Open your mind to a world of Spirians, or the Protected Ones, Light and Shadows, or the Fallen Ones. In the Spirian clan is a young warrior Shanuk, who is powerful but still a little too boyish, and easily angered to be a leader. The elders of the clan fear that sooner than they want, they will need Shanuk to be ready to take over the clan. Calla, is part Spirian and part Fae, she is a healer in the clan and she is the love of Shanuk, yet she too will have to endure and learn to be a leader among the people and not just and headstrong young girl. Spirians: The Beginning tells the story of Shanuk's growth, what happens to the elders that leads to his becoming the leader of the clan. It also tells Calla's story, what happens to her and her growth to become his partner in the clan. Author Rowena Portch gives us a well written tale of secrets, betrayals, revenge and making the wrong and right choices in this story that keeps your attention from beginning to end.
Spirians: The Beginning is a well written tale, giving enough history to make everything that occurs in the story make sense, yet not so much as to bore the reader. Every character has a background, some tragedy that lead to them being in this clan, and those tragedies ultimately lead to them making the decisions that the later did, either wrong or right. Author Rowena Portch weaves historical, fantasy, coming of age, spiritual all into a tale that keeps your attention and has you reading from beginning to end. I recommend this book for adults only, there is some references to sex - the mating, bonding and then some other, so I wouldn't let younger kids read it, but that's a parental choice.

Balance is what the world is based on. In So Shall I Reap, we are introduced to the world of the Unseen, those on both sides as they work to keep the balance. Those on one side, the House of Dark, usually called grim reapers, take the souls as someone dies and return part of it to the River Styx to keep in flowing, the other part they give to the bridge crossers, part of the House of Light to be recopied again at a later time. It's all a cycle that bears no emotion, and happens time and time again each day. Until the day that a reaper named Tevin is sent to collect the soul of a six year old girl, Alexcia. The problem is that Alexcia is able to see him, this has never happened to him before, and after a fierce fight with Razor, the bridge crosser, Rae-Lynn, Alexcia's mother explains to Tevin that Alexcia is the Child of Balance and makes him promise to keep her safe. Author Kathy-Lynn Cross gives an amazingly complex story of a family, trying to protect their daughter, getting some things right and some things wrong. A grim reaper protecting the life of a child, which is against everything he is about, and the House of Light doing everything in its power to claim her.
Author Kathy-Lynn Cross has labeled So Shall I Reap as the first book in a series, which is good because this book ends on a huge cliff-hanger of an ending. You really only get to originally meet the characters when Alecxia was six and then we spend a couple weeks with them the month before her sixteenth birthday. As a reader, you get Alexcia's view of what is going on, and then you get Tevin's, and neither have all the answers. It seems that Rae-Lynn and Max have kept a number of secrets from them both, from Alexcia in efforts to protect her, and from Tevin, to allow him to discover it on his own and not to influence fate. There is no sex or real violence, but there is teenage drinking. It is a great read for all ages. Enjoy.

Dark Legacy

*If you've been reading my blog on book reviews long you will realize that I don't give 5's very often. Personally I hate the 5 point system because there is a wide range of books between 4 and 5. Also, to me a 5 is perfect and I just don't think any book is perfect.**

In LA there is always crime and homicides, but the latest string has Detective Reese Daniels mystified. They are drained of blood, but no wounds. One would be victim didn't get fully drained and was found alive and rushed to the ER, where Doctor Andre Delacroix manages to save his life. When Reese calls his best friend Andre to ask a question about blood, Andre informs him about his patient. The thing that scares Andre is that this looks like a vampire to him, and he's not sure Reese will believe him. Dark Legacy is a tell of cops chasing after a killer always one step ahead of them, a doctor, who just happens to be a vampire, but not a killing one, teaming together with an unconventional priest and in the end the chief, to fight something they have no clue how to deal with. Author +M. A. Anderson gives readers a tell that you can not put down. There are so many twists and turns, it becomes so complex as more and more people, who you originally think are just bit characters in the book become more and more involved in the story. You never know who will become important.
While there many be any number of Vampire novels on the shelf, this one is so different and wild. It's not your typical boy-girl romance/ human-vampire romance. This is crime, serial killer, detective novel mixed with a vampire and priest vampire hunter, a nightclub, and even a shifter thrown in for good measure. Author +M. A. Anderson has really taken a great mystery novel and interwoven a vampire theme into it, and believe me it will keep you guessing until the very last page. To be honest, I think this is the first time I have read a crime novel that included vampires, and I really liked it. I hope to see more of this type now that the barrier has been broken. Definitely an adult book, although the sex scenes are only alluded to, and the violence is described tastefully. Young adults and teens would be a parent call. But this is definitely one you don't want to pass!
