Don't Catch Me: Chase (The McCabe Brothers, book 2)
by Lorhainne Eckhart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Reviewed for Reader's Favorite.
Of all the McCabe brothers, Chase is the one who has always felt the need to fix things, to take care of problems and people ad deal with them. So when Chase stops for gas in a remote little place, walking into what looks like an armed robbery, he immediately takes action and takes control of the situation. Things get more confusing for chase when he realizes that it's just a young kid, and then that there is a whole lot more going on in this sleepy little town than meets the eye. It will take all of Chase's smooth-talking and handsomeness to build any trust with Billy Jo, but in her, Chase sees his own brother Aaron, and he is bound and determined to make things right. Don't Catch Me is the second book in the McCabe Brother's series, written by author Lorhainne Eckhart.
Although Don't Catch Me is the second book in the McCabe Brother's series, it can easily stand on it's own. The oldest brother Vic, who was the subject of the first book, is mentioned in this book, but you don't need to know any of his story to completely understand this book. The reader is introduced to Aaron and Luc, in fact we meet the whole McCabe family in this book, and you start really understanding the family more in this book, they play a slightly bigger role, as they were almost non-existent in the first book. Author Lorhainne Eckhart has written a captivating tale of family, especially a dysfunctional family that has managed to create some amazing men, that have their flaws, but at the same time those flaws are what make them that much more interesting and relatable. This is a great book for any reader, there is very mild references to a couple of intimate moments, but it is easy for me to say those are so mild, any age reader would enjoy this book.

Don't Stop Me: Vic (The McCabe Brothers, Book 1)
by Lorhainne Eckhart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Reviewed for Readers Favorite
Vic McCabe has come a long way over the years, he is a successful contractor and developer, but there is something missing in his life. He holds almost everyone at a distance, but after the one mistake in his life when he was a teenager, he isn't about to let anyone get close to him again. When a determined reporter shows up at his office wanting to know about the past, she won't take no for an answer, and when she worms her way into his house, he lets her know that what happened in the past is off limits, it's not his story to tell and he refuses to let it hurt anyone again. To prevent the story from going to press, he has to find someone from his past, someone who doesn't want to be found. Don't Stop Me is the story of Vic years after a tragic incident that changed everyone's lives. Author Lorhainne Eckhart melds a classic bad boy, good girl, misunderstanding story into a completely modern and current romance.
Don't Stop Me is a well written story that develops in the wake of 9/11 and the attacks on the Twin Towers in New York. It cold easily be a true-life story, in that is plays into the the fears of people in that time period and the overzealousness of some to bring someone, anyone to justice, and to make someone pay, even if they had nothing to do with anything. Author Lorhainne Eckhart wrote a wonderful story that will tug at your heartstrings, and maybe make you rethink some positions on people. I found the book to be a good story, but my own sensitive nature, dislike of racial and ethnic profiling, and background in seeing some of these things occur to friends in college, made it difficult for me to read. It just came too close to real life for me to be comfortable, but at the same time, I think it would be a great book to make someone who has never experienced anything of the sort think about what can happen. Not sure what the author has planned for the next books in the McCabe brothers series, but even with my issues reading this one, I look forward to finding out.

Greensmith Girls (Lainswich Witches, Book 1)
by Raven Snow
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
In the small town of Lainswich, almost everybody knows everybody and their business, so the rumor around town has always been that the Greensmith Girls were strange, or well witchy. Rowan took the first chance she got and left town, renting a run-down tiny apartment working for a tabloid, but at least she was on her own. At least until the annual family yard sale when her Aunt sold a trunk to someone and that person ended up dead.
Now Rowan is back in town trying to figure out who was the body in the trunk and what happened to the lady that bought the trunk, without anyone in her family getting hurt. Enter the grandson of the man in the trunk, and thing get even more complicated.
Can Rowan figure out what is going on without involving the family? Can she keep herself from getting mixed up with the grandson?
This is a great start to a new series that focuses on family, a little witchy nature, a little romance, and small towns. It looks to be be a cute and entertaining series.

Hunted (Witch Hunters, Book 1)
by: Kathleen Rovner
4 of 5 stars

Being a witch hasn't always been an easy existence for Sabrina and her family, especially when there is a government agency called ARSE hunting you down to be permanently corralled in a testing facility. This means that of course, Sabrina and her family have to live on the fringes of society, using their talents to take down criminals and such. All his life Chance has grown up as part of ARSE, and he has believed everything they have feed him, that all witches are evil and bad and have to be hunted down and controlled. One look at Sabrina and Chance is not sure what is going on, but he is finding it hard to believe that she is evil. Hunted is the story of Chance and Sabrina, his kidnapping her and him trying to convince himself that she is definitely evil, even though everything she does and says tells him that she is far from evil. Author Kathleen Rovner creates a story that appeals to a variety of readers.
Hunted is titled as the first book in the Witch Hunters series, and as such it is a great start to the series. Although we never meet any of Sabrina's family in this story, we do learn a great deal about Sabrina, we also learn Chance's hidden past and more about the ARSE agency. We also meet the Fae nation and Ash and Ike, who seem to be able to make everything better. Author Kathleen Rovner spins witches, fae, and shape shifters, hidden from the regular world and secret government agencies not above using, abusing and exploiting people to get what they want. This is a great novel, different from most paranormal out there at the moment. This is good for all age readers, as there is no sex and little violence in the book. This has the makings of a great series.
auld acquaintances

A winter wedding is what Ella has always dreamed of, especially growing up in Florida, and that is what she is about to get. This is her bridal week, and on New Year's Eve, she and Jay will be married in Williamsburg. Too bad her sister Edy isn't as enthusiastic about it as she is, in fact Edy is almost down right hostile about it. Auld Acquaintances is the story of weddings and family, brothers and sisters, parents and step parents, friends and more. Planning a wedding is stressful, but when it is the first time his family and her family meet, and the first time parents with new spouses are with former spouses, it can become hysterical. Thrown in a historical town and a ghost with a vendetta and you have the makings of a story with so many twists and turns that you will never know what is coming next. Author Adam Zorzi has created a current and modern story that pulls you in and keeps you engaged to the very end.
Auld Acquaintances is part wedding story, part ghost story, part family saga and part holiday story. It has a current feel, even mentioning the wedding dress as being designed by Christian Siriarno, winner of a recent Project Runway season. Author Adam Zorzi does a wonderful job of mixing a historical story about the past of a hotel and the ghost that haunts the place in with a modern wedding and a completely current family dynamic of parents and new spouses and old spouses, siblings and friends that all merge into one cohesive story. Although there is some adult themes between the soon to be married couple, the story overall is pretty clean and appropriate for most readers.

Under A Blood Kissed Moon (Blood Moon & Magic, Book 1)
by Kelleye Richards
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ember may be a shifter, but she was raised by vampires, and her family is everything to her, which is why she is at an illegal shifter fight. Patrone has threatened her family if she doesn't fight for him, and Ember will do anything to keep her family safe. Tonight's fight is going to be different, Ember can feel it in the air, there is a different scent in the air, something is going on. Thoren hates shifters, and who can blame him, a rogue set of shifters murdered his family and he has vowed revenge, but there is something different about Ember that unsettles him. Under a Blood Kissed Moon is the story of a vampire, Thoren, bent on killing all shifters for the mistakes of those few that destroyed his life and family, and Ember, a shifter raised by vampires but something completely different than what Thoren was expecting, and he isn't sure how to handle it. Author Kelleye Richards is actually the writing team of authors Anya Kelleye and E R Richards, and they have taken a role playing exercise and developed it into a full book series.
Under a Blood Kissed Moon is the first book in the Blood Moon and Magic series, and it brings vampires, shape shifters and witches together on a wild journey. One thing that is unique in this book is that the author Kelleye Richards gives vampires the ability to shape shift as well. This is the first time I have read a book in which a vampire can also shape shift. I found that to be interesting and different, making it something apart of all the other paranormal books out there at the moment. This is definitely an adult novel as there is some sexual content, some violence, fated mates, bonded mates, and even childbirth. Most of these topics most teenagers know about but I like to warn readers so that no one is caught off guard or offended. This is a paranormal book that doesn't follow the rules of all the others and makes you want to read it, and future books.

Curl Up and Die
by S.Y. Robins
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Curl Up and Dye is the tongue-in-cheek name of a beauty shop owned by Carly, where she employs her best friend Hans. To promote a new line of pastel hair dyes, Carly dyes her hair lilac. Lilac hair in a small town is going to stick out like a sore thumb. Of course with the carnival in town, maybe she won't be too noticeable.
When a young carnival worker, Ruby stops in the shop, she leaves with a bubble gum pink hair dye job. But when Carly and Hans try to find her at the carnival they find her dead behind the cotton candy booth.
Carly, afraid that something will think her dye job was to blame, decides to investigate herself and gets herself into a mess.
This is a very short little story, only about five or six chapters long or so, but it's cute and fun to read. It's quick and enjoyable. Now whether there is more to this beauty shop idea or not, I am not sure, from what I can see from the author there seems to be a great number of cozy style mysteries, but all different genres.
